Atheist Couple

There was an atheist (a person who denies or disbelieves the existence of a supreme being or beings.) couple lived in a remote area of Texas, USA, along with their 5 years old child. The couple never told their daughter anything about God. One night when they were having their dinner, the parents fought with each other and her dad took his gun and shot her mom right in front of the child. Then, the dad shot himself. They never thought about the future of that little girl, the little girl watched it all. She was then sent to an Orphan home. There was a Christian warden working in that orphan home and she took the child to church. On the first day of Sunday school, the warden told the Sunday school teacher that the girl had never heard of Jesus, and to have patience with her. At the time of group discussion, teacher held up a picture of Jesus and said, “Does anyone know who this is?” The little girl said, “I do, that’s the man who was holding me that night, when my parents died.” Is it any wonder that Jesus loves the little children? When I heard this incident, it made me stop and think.  Oh, to have the innocence of a small child, to see the beauty in everything around us… May be we all need to stop and look at life through the eyes of a child? Look for the beauty in people that we meet. Look for the beauty of the things that God has created. Live for the moment, and drink in the beauty of what life has to offer us. We only pass by this way once, so take time to stop and smell the roses. We are the children of God, and Jesus loves us all.

The poem Footsteps in the Sand by Brazilian poet Ademar de Barros

I remembered this story,

One night, I dreamed a dream, I was walking along the beach with my Lord. Across the dark sky flashed scenes from my life. For each scene, I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand, one belonging to me and one to my Lord. When the last scene of my life shot before me, I looked back at the footprints in the sand. There was only one set of footprints. I realized that this was at the lowest and saddest times of my life. This always bothered me and I questioned the Lord about my dilemma. “Lord, You told me when I decided to follow You, You would walk and talk with me all the way. But I’m aware that during the most troublesome times of my life there is only one set of footprints. I just don’t understand why, when I need You most, You leave me”.

He whispered “My precious child, I love you and will never leave you, never, ever, during your trials and testings. When you saw only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you.”
